March 27, 2002 Greetings to My Supporters! I write to tell you about my first ten weeks at the Honor Academy. It is hard to believe that it was only at the beginning of this year that I left. The time has gone by so fast. First and foremost I want to thank all those who have supported me in prayer and contributed money to my internship; I thank you all for your support. I absolutely love my life here at Teen Mania. I room with five other guys: Nathan Dotson, Matt King, Rick Macbeth, Jarod Lubechow and Joe Mullins. I love all my roommates, and it is very interesting to see how we all interact; everyone in the room has an opposite—sort of like the odd couple but friendlier. Out living quarters are small, we have one of the smaller rooms, and so you can imaging how messy it gets sometimes—well almost all the time. But it is still cleaner then my room was back home. Work is always a blast and a new adventure. Some days are super slow because nobody’s computer breaks down and then on other days sparks are flying, servers are crashing, web pages are going down, nobody can work; it’s a blast. I work from 8am to 3pm; there are nine other people that I work with; five of whom are interns like me. I take three classes. Worldview, taught by David Hasz, the director of the Honor Academy, is an apologetics class based of Chuck Colson’s How Now Shall We Live. It is a very awesome class. I have learned a lot and seen how Satan has just used so many different things to enter out culture and penetrate movies in ways that most people don’t notice, even many Christians, including me. There is Leadership Lab also taught by David Hasz. This class teaches us how to be a person of influence and to lead others in a godly manner. This is my favorite class. He goes over everything from how to dress and how to carry yourself like a statesman to how to effectively serve those above you. It is awesome. The first book we studied was “God’s Armor Bearer” by Terry Nance. I would recommend that everyone read this short 70-page book. The last class is Wednesday Evening Chapel. Ron Luce, the founder of Teen Mania, usually teaches it, but every now and again we have special guest speakers come in. For example, Charles Stanley spoke to us the second week I was here; and a young attorney who is running for congress also spoke to us. It is an amazing time of worship and teaching. I have finally learned how to tie a tie. I must wear a tie twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays when I am at church. Then on all other days we have to wear slacks and a collared shirt. Needless to say I have become very adept at ironing. I have joined several “clubs” or “committees” within Teen Mania, the most prominent is Terra Nova, which is like a student council. Also, there are two smaller ones, which I had a hand in getting started. One is God’s Generals, and we are here to help mobilize interns to become pray warriors and mobilize people to pray on a constant basis. Now let me just say that I believe that at least all interns are saved, and living for God; but not all interns are prayer warriors and that is what we are trying to become. And I am very blessed and privileged that God has given me a burden to pray since I have come here. The third group is very small. We are still setting it up, and I know it has a lot of potential—to change the campus, the community and the world through prayer. I am excited about what God is going to do the rest of this year. In April I will go down “The Crucible,” which is a week-long test for interns who want to be an ACA, an ACA is a room leader. They lead room meetings, read lots of books, and pour into their roommates. It is a lot of work but I feel called to it. There is also a program called Knighthood, which is only for guys. It is supposed to help facilitate our growth into godly manhood. There are three steps, Page, Squire and Knight. I am a Squire right now. There are several requirements a person must meet to reach each step. Some requirements are memorizing passages of scripture, writing essays, and interviewing a person whom you look up to—just to start. I love you all. I am will be taking my vacation June 14-22, and I plan to spend a couple days at our awesome summer camp. Thank you for your prayers and financial support. I am praying for you all. God bless. |
