Tribal and Celebration Retreats, Knighthood ![]() My friend Brandon Sickler during the Tribal Retreat Tribal Retreat The Tribal Retreat was a blast! Now to let you know what the Tribal Retreat is, the internship broke up into 2 different groups. Those that were Tribe and those that were Missionaries. I was a Tribesman and those in my tribe came up with a culture, a language, religion, etc. All of the tribes were based in a closed country and there was a wicked government and a tribe made up of second year interns; they acted like a wicked tribe that hated Christianity and tried at all costs to stop it from being spread. So now that you have the general idea about the retreat, let me talk about what happened to me, my tribe, and my missionary group. Our tribe was a kind, and tolerant tribe. We accepted our missionary group, we didn’t kill them or anything. They were nice enough, they gave us food helped us make a fire in the cold rain, got fire wood. Then we enslaved a couple of them, and wouldn’t let them leave or anything. It was fun. They figured out our language pretty easily and then they started evangelizing us and all of us got saved. But not without a little ruckus to go along with it. The government put them in jail about 3 or 4 times, and chased one of them around for the whole retreat, trying to capture him because he broke some people out of jail, stole some tents to sleep in, and snuck through customs. It was so great. What made me get ‘saved’ had little to do with the missionaries and much to do with the murders we saw. You see, the government had brought all the tribes and the missionaries and the whole country together. Then they ‘taught us a lesson’ some of the people had already been converted and they did a mock torture and murder. It was very, very moving and powerful; I thought (in tribal mode) if they were willing to go through all that then it must be real. So then I sought out Jesus and got saved. It was so awesome. I also learned a lot of things about my faith and some object lessons that didn’t have anything to do with the Tribal Retreat but things that I needed to learn. Celebration Retreat The Celebration Retreat was the day after the Tribal Retreat and it was so fun! They went all out, they bought big blow up games. Like those games you see at the fair that have those boxing gloves 100 times bigger then your arm, a rock climbing wall, a giant maze and other games. They also opened the pool and had a synchronized swimming contest and belly-flop contest. We got to play basketball… I scored half of my teams points which was 2. We got beat, beat bad… 4 to 34. It was tons of fun for 2 days, then that night we had the banquet. The dress code was casual to festive so I dressed up like one of those Mexicans that you see in the movies with the big hats and the long robe looking things, and a curly moustache. The banquet was catered by The Olive Garden. It was fun the music was blasting the lights were disco-y, there was funny skits, and lots more ruckus. People were dancing on chair’s, everything. Who said Christian’s can’t have fun! Knighthood Knighthood is a program within the internship for men. We memorize scriptures and do activities that teach us what it means to be a man of God. Well the program has three stages that you have to meet requirements for. The first is Paige, the second is Squire, and the last is Knight. Which is a invite only stage. Well I was knighted the around 1 in the morning, the night before the Tribal Retreat. We got woken up at 12 midnight and they took us to the auditorium and had worship which was SO anointed, then they went through the ceremony and gave us our honor cords to wear on formal banquets. It was great, they also give you a Knight’s Name, it is Latin and it basically has something to do with your character individualized to yourself. Mine is Charoumemos Monadikos which means “Joyfully Unique”. In a silent room there was a small eruption of laughter, it was funny. Anywho after all that stuff happened we had a party with music and food. Big turkey legs, steak, cheese cake, IBC Root Beer, and other good snakes. I got to bed around 2:30 and then woke up around 6 for the Tribal Retreat. Well that is about it, a quick update telling you about my last 10 days. They have been fun and exciting filled with business. God bless you all. |
